Blue Orchid Homecare Agency was founded and lovingly built by husband-and-wife team Malcolm Hayes, BSB, MBA, and Dr. Suzette Hayes, DNP, MSN, BSN, RN, AGPCNP-BC. Our story began many years ago at Woodrow Wilson High School (now Jackson-Reed High School) in Washington, DC, where we met as friends in the 10th grade. That friendship grew over time, and at the age of 22 we began dating. By 25, we were married—committed not only to one another, but to a shared vision of service, faith, and excellence.

Together, through God’s grace, we built a life rooted in love and purpose. We are the proud parents of two wonderful sons, Nigel and Spencer, and a fluffy dog named Champ. Our marriage of over 25 years was a testament to partnership, perseverance, and faith—values that remain at the heart of Blue Orchid Homecare Agency today.

Malcolm Hayes brought more than 27 years of management and business operations experience with a Fortune 500 corporation. He was a visionary leader whose integrity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication laid a strong foundation for Blue Orchid. His commitment to operational excellence, ethical leadership, and compassionate service continues to guide our mission and standards. Though Malcolm is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in every aspect of this agency and in the lives we serve.

Dr. Suzette Hayes brings over 20 years of diverse healthcare experience across some of the most critical and specialized settings. Her background includes bedside nursing as both a charge and staff nurse in Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular step-down units, as well as Surgical and Medical Intensive Care Units at a Level I Trauma Center. She has also served as a Research Nurse Coordinator and Lead Nurse at the Community Clinical Research Center, a Research Nurse Practitioner Consultant for multiple studies, a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner, an Immunology Nurse Educator, and a dedicated Patient Advocate.

Dr. Hayes has worked closely with individuals and families affected by complex neurological conditions including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), Down Syndrome, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s Disease (Dementia). As a Board-Certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, she formulates and implements individualized plans of care that reflect best practices, current research, patient and family preferences, and cultural considerations. She also provides direct supervision to all Blue Orchid caregivers to ensure the highest level of compassionate, professional care.
